Host a Blood Drive

A group of people standing in front of a brick wall.
  • Each blood donation saves or enhances up to 3 lives. Imagine how many local patients you can touch with your own blood drive. Central PA Blood Bank conducts blood drives 7 days a week at businesses, schools, churches, temples, universities, and other community & civic organizations. If you have a group of 30 or more people who would be interested in donating blood, please contact us. Hosting a blood drive costs nothing, but it is the most valuable gift you can give to local patients.
  • How to set up a blood drive:
  • The steps to creating a blood drive with your blood drive coordinator:

Phone call:
The coordinator will have a conversation with you on the phone to gather some basic information and arrange for an onsite planning meeting.

Planning Meeting:
Together, you and the coordinator will look at the available space inside the building and determine if the blood drive can be held inside, or at least partially inside the building.

The following will also be decided upon at the meeting:

  • Date, time & location
  • Onsite logistics
  • advertising & marketing materials (which will then be created & supplied by CPBB)
  • Discussion of giveaways and incentives you can supply for your donors
  • Determine how to best contact & communicate with your donors
  • Schedule a recruiter meeting with management or other interested people within your organization to provide you with help in getting the word out. Your blood drive coordinator can run this meeting for you

Timeline after planning meeting:

  • You will receive a PDF of the poster for your blood drive so that you may approve or make changes
  • Weeks before the blood drive, you will receive your marketing/advertising materials in the mail
  • Day before blood drive - a final check on logistics, unlocked doors, parking, etc.
  • Day of drive – staff will arrive 30 to 45 minutes prior to drive start to set up the blood drive
  • Your donors will come out to save lives
  • After the drive, we will work with you on organizing a recognition program for your donors
  • Your coordinator will be available to you throughout this entire process
